Who are the authors?

  • Chris Bowick — Entrepreneur, husband, and the “adrift” voice in the book. His outward success masked deep inner struggles with addiction and trauma.

  • Katie Bowick — Wife, communicator, and the “anchor” voice. Her journey is one of protecting love without losing herself, finding voice in the gray, and redefining recovery.

You can learn more on our About page and from Our Journey.

What is meant by “the gray” in the title?

The gray refers to the complex, in-between spaces where life isn’t black and white. It’s where love and brokenness coexist, where recovery isn’t one straight road, and where healing doesn’t follow a perfect script. We invite readers into that messy space with honesty.

What makes this book different from other memoirs about addiction?

  • It is told from two perspectives (husband and wife), giving insight into both sides of the struggle.

  • We explore nontraditional avenues of healing — including plant/animal medicine, internal work, faith, and therapy — not just the standard recovery model.

  • It emphasizes unconditional love with boundaries, not romanticized heroism, showing what it takes to stay present when everything is falling apart.

Who is this book for?

This book is for people who:

  • Are personally affected by addiction (themselves or loved ones)

  • Want a deeper, more nuanced conversation about recovery

  • Are curious about alternative paths to healing

  • Seek encouragement, hope, and permission to live amid complexity

Will there be audiobook, e-book, or international editions?

Yes, the plan is to publish in multiple formats (hardcover, e-book, audiobook). International rights are being considered — details will be announced via the updates list.

Can I host a book club or request a speaking event?

Yes! We are open to collaborations, speaking engagements, or book events (in person or virtual). Use the Contact page to propose an idea or request scheduling information.

Where can I buy the book once it’s released?

Once released, the book should be available through Amazon anytime after Monday, November 17th!

I’m concerned about triggering content — does the book address trauma, addiction, or suicide?

Yes, the book candidly addresses heavy topics including addiction, relational turmoil, mental health, and emotional distress. It is meant to be honest and unflinching, but also to offer hope and healing.

We are not mental health experts but always encourage self-care and reaching out for support to professionals in life. No shame in pausing as you read and coming back when you’re ready.
